1   Cut 4 x 90 cm and 1 x 30 cm pieces of macramé cord, which is 2 mm thick.

2   Lay the four cords double and thread them through the ring from the front – now make four “Lark’s Head Knots”.

3   Take the 5th cord and hold it diagonally to the left – and now make a rib knot with the 4th cord. Repeat with cords 3, 2 and 1.

4   Repeat step 4, keeping the 4th thread taut and diagonally to the right – while creating a rib knot with cords 6, 7 and 8.

5   Hold the 5th cord taut to the left and make rib knots with cords 4, 3 and 2.

6   Hold the 5th cord taut to the right and make a rib knot with cords 6 and 7.

7   Make a double knot (square knot) around the two middle cords (4 and 5) with cords 3 and 6.

8   Hold the 2nd cord to the right and make a rib knot around it with cords 3 and 4.

9   Hold the 7th cord to the left and tie rib knots around it using cords 6 and 5.

10   Hold the 1st cord to the right and tie rib knots around it using cords 2, 3 and 4.

11   Hold the 8th cord to the left and tie rib knots around using cords 7, 6 and 5.

12   Continue holding the 8th cord diagonally to the left. Make rib knots by folding cord 1 over cords 2 and 3 – then cord 2 and cord 3.

13   Hold the 5th thread diagonally to the right and make a rib knot around it with cord 8 by folding it over cords 7 and 6. Repeat rib knots with cords 7 and 6.

14   Repeat steps 5 – 12.

15   Gather all eight cords together, making sure they are lying nice and neatly. Make a gathering knot with the the first cord of 30 cm. Start by making a loop that you wrap around and end at the bottom.

16   Thread the cord through the loop and pull the cord that is poking out of the start of the gathered knot– this will securely fasten the ends and can be cut off.

17   Cut the ends 7 cm down and untie the string to create a pretty tassel at the end.
