Make your own Christmas wreath using the macramé knotting technique. Knot it around a bamboo ring with off-white macramé cord and decorate it with one of two types of berries: white knotted berries or red berries made with Silk Clay® and glitter clay. The two variants let you can use the wreath all year round.

2 Cut 6 m of cord for the wreath.
3 Find the middle of the cord and pull it through the bamboo ring.
4 Pull the ends through the loop to make a larch’s head knot.
5 Thread the two cords behind the wreath and then around and into the loop under the wreath and tighten.
6 Repeat step 5.
7 Attach 2 cm of double-sided adhesive tape to both sides of the wreath after the knot.
8 Put tape on both the front and back.
9 Cut the ends of the cord and attach them.
10 Cut 5 m of natural hemp string and secure the end.
11 Remove all paper from the tape and wrap the hemp string around it.
12 Finally, thread the hemp string into the coils and attach it with the tape.
13 Cut off the ends.
Leaf How to make the leaves.
15 Cut 9 x 60 cm to make three leaves.
16 Use three cords for one leaf. Double each cord and secure them with, for example, a pin in cardboard.
17 Find the middle of the second cord and place it behind the first cord.
18 Tie a knot around the first cord with the second cord.
19 Make another knot – a double half hitch knot.
20 Make a double half hitch knot with the other end of cord no. 2 on the other side of the middle of cord no. 1.
21 Make two rounds with a double half hitch knot.
22 There are now four cords connected at the top.
23 Tie the middle of the third and last cord to cord no. 2.
24 Make a double half hitch knot.
25 Also make a double half hitch knot around cord no. 3.
26 A double half hitch knot consists of two knots.
27 Tie a double half hitch knot around cord no. 4.
28 The double half hitch knot consists of two knots.
29 Now tie a double half hitch knot around cords no. 4 and 5.
30 Tie a double half hitch knot around cord no. 2 with cord no. 1.
31 Tie a double half hitch knot around cord no. 3 with cord no. 2.
32 Bundle together the leaf by tying a lark’s head knot around cord no. 3 with cord no. 4.
33 Hold cord no. 6 tight towards the left and tie a lark’s head knot around it with cord no. 4 and cord no. 5.
34 Hold cord no. 1 tightly towards the right and tie a double half hitch knot around it with cords no. 2 and 3.
35 Tie a double half hitch knot around cord no. 6 with cord no. 1.
36 Hold the cord that is now no. 6 tightly towards the right.
37 Tie a double half hitch knot around cord no. 6 with cord no. 5. Also tie a double half hitch knot around cords 5 and 6 with cord no. 4.
38 Repeat with cord no. 1, with cord no. 2 being tied around. Bundle together cords no. 1 and 2 and tie a double half hitch knot around it with cord no. 3.
39 Now bundle the leaf together.
40 Tie a double half hitch knot around all cords with the cord furthest to the right.
41 The double half hitch knot consists of two knots.
42 Tie a square knot tightly on the back.
43 Cut off the bundle of cords.
Berries Tie berries in two sizes – two large and one small.
45 Cut 2 x 80 cm and 2 x 120 cm cord for the two large berries.
46 Cut 2 x 80 cm for the smaller berry.
47 Smaller berry: Double the cords and secure one of them to tie around the other.
48 Place the middle of the 80 cm cord behind the secured cord.
49 Tie a square knot.
50 A square knot consists of two knots.
51 Tie five square knots.
52 Turn over and tie a square knot on the back.
53 Cut the ends of the two cords you used to tie knots.
54 Now pull the two middle cords through the loop at the top, making sure that the front of the knot is facing outwards. Tighten the loop by pulling the cords.
55 Double 80 cm of cord around the middle of the large berry and secure it. You need a 120 cm long cord for knotting, which is then doubled.
56 Find the middle of the doubled cord and place it behind the secured one.
57 Tie a square knot around it.
58 The square knot must consist of two knots.
59 Tie five square knots.
60 Turn over and tie square knots using the four cords used for knotting on the back.
61 Cut off the cords used for knotting.
62 Thread the cords through the loop at the top, then turn the front of the knot so that it faces outwards.
63 Tighten the loop by pulling the cords to make a ball.
64 Thread the cord on the two leaves and two large berries through the wreath from the back and secure with knots.
65 Cut the cords to equal length.
66 Tie the third leaf and small ball onto the top of the wreath. Also tie a cord for hanging.
Red berries. You can also make a bow and red berries for the wreath.
68 Roll five balls out of Silk Clay® and cut five pieces of floral wire.
69 Make a loop at the end of the wire.
70 Mould the Silk Clay® around the wire to make a ball.
71 Let the Silk Clay® ball dry on the wire for one hour. Afterwards, cover the ball with a thin layer of glitter clay. The balls now need to dry for three hours before they can be attached to the wreath.
