How to tie-dye with the shibori tie-dye technique using metal clips
#v16110
Shibori is a Japanese expression for a technique used for dyeing fabric. Originally, the colour indigo blue was used, but now the entire colour scale is used. Fold your fabric item into a small square, attach metal clips and a piece of card and now dye with fabric colour. Wash and dry your cotton items before dyeing to remove any potential residue from the manufacturing process. They are now ready for folding and for the dye bath. 100 ml fabric dye is enough to completely dye approx. 700 g white cotton fabric.

Place a stiff 9 x 9 cm piece of card (same size as the fabric square) on top of and underneath your fabric square and secure with four large metal clips; one on each side. The thicker the card, the lighter the colour of the fabric after dying. A tip: re-use the sides of a clean milk or juice carton or use 2-3 layers of old post cards or a piece of wood.
