How to make relief designs in handmade bars of soap

Make your own homemade bars of soap in beautiful colours with relief designs or text prints. Melt the soap base either in a water bath or in the microwave. You will need 100 g soap base, 1 cm soap dye paste and 2-3 drops of essential oil per finished bar of soap. Place your bar of soap in a soap dish, allowing it to dry out between each use.

Weigh 100 g soap base and cut into 3 x 3 cm chunks. Melt in the microwave with 30 second intervals at 80% power and stir between each interval to prevent heat damage. We recommend you use gloves when melting the soap base.

Carefully make a hole in the middle of the bar of soap approx. 1 cm from the top edge as shown in the photo. Support the bar of soap on the back to prevent it from breaking. Cut a 50 cm piece of natural hemp, feed it through the hole and tie a knot; one by the soap and one a bit higher up, forming a loop for hanging.
