Candle Holders with a decorated Watercolour Paper Waistband

These waistbands made from watercolour paper on candle holders are decorated with masked designs. The designs are made with water repellent oil pastels and then painted with watercolours.

How to do it

(NB: Print and use the separate template for this idea for a waistband which fits the glass holders exactly). Draw with an oil pastel crayon on the watercolour paper. Here we have used a white crayon, but in principle you can use any colour.

Paint with watercolours and leave to dry.

Trim the watercolour paper and saturate it with plain cooking oil on the front and back. This allows the light to shine beautifully through the colours on the waistband. (NB: Several coats of cooking oil may be necessary).

Assemble and staple the waistband. Fit it around the candle holder.
