Candle dish with beach shells

1 Measure the soy wax: 100 g for the candle and 20 g for the shells.

2 Melt the soy was in a water bath or microwave. Start with the 20 g for the shells. Melting pots were used here, but an old jam jar can also be used.

3 Pour the melted white wax into the mould. Start by making three white shells or however many you want. Then adjust the colour with colour pigment as shown in steps 4 and 5.

4 Stir a small piece of colour pigment into the wax so that it turns light grey. Cast more shells in this colour. Stir more colour pigment into the rest of the wax so that it turns dark grey. Then cast the remaining shells. If the wax hardens in the process, heat it up again.

5 Cast in several shades of colour and allow the wax to dry completely in the mould.

6 Melt the 100 g of wax in a clean glass, such as an old jam jar. Place the candle wick in the middle of the bowl, pour in some melted wax and allow it to harden a little so that the candle wick stays in place. Now pour in the rest of the wax and allow to harden completely. The amount of time this takes depends on how hot the wax is and the temperature in the room. If necessary, store in a cool place to speed up the process.

7 Remove the shells from the mould when fully hardened.

8 The shells can now be placed. Gently heat the wax surface of the candle to soften it. You can use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat up the shells so they can be attached.

9 Place the shells in the soft wax and allow the wax to harden again.

10 Cut the candle wick to a suitable length.
