A knitted, stripy Cat made on a Knitting Loom

1.   Cast on stitches: Make a loop from the yarn and attach it onto the small peg on the side of the knitting loom. Now wrap the yarn behind and outside (making loops around) each individual peg on the knitting loom, all the way round.

2.   Cast another round on the knitting loom and secure the yarn around the small peg on the side of the knitting loom.

3.   Knit: Use the knitting hook which is part of the knitting loom kit to lift – from each peg - the loop from the lower stitch over the upper stitch. Continue around the whole of the knitting loom.

4.   Cast another round on the knitting loom and lift the stitches as described in the previous step. Continue knitting like this.

5.   Colour change: Attach the yarn around the small peg on the side of the knitting loom. Now follow the instructions in steps 1-4. (For the cat, knit four rounds for each stripe/colour). NB: The transition between the colours will only be seen on the inside of the tube.

6.   Continue knitting with different colours according to your taste until the knitted tube is approx. 30 cm long. NB: Knit the two last rounds slighly loose.

7.   Finish: Lift 2 (two) stitches onto the knitting hook. Pull the outer stitch through the inner stitch on the knitting hook. Now there is only one stitch. Pull the next stitch from the knitting loom (clock wise) onto the knitting hook. Pull this through the inner stitch as described above. Continue all the way around the knitting loom.

8.   A TIP: You may use a crochet hook instead of the knitting hook which is part of the knitting loom kit.

9.   Turn the tube inside out. Tie a knot with the ends at each colour change of the yarn and secure the ends. Sew the tube together at one end.

10.   Turn the tube outside in and fill it with polyester stuffing. Sew the tube together at this end.

11.   Plait a tail from three (3) doubled-over pieces of yarn.

12.   Cut ears, eyes and a nose/mouth from felt. You may draw details onto the cut-out parts using a Uni Posca marker.

13.   Sew the ears onto the knitted tube using a needle and thread. Glue the other parts onto the knitted tube.
